From Prop M to the Housing Balance: Three Decades of Activism Against Displacement
When: Thursday April 10th 5:30pm -7:30pm
Where: LGBT Community Center 1800 Market St.
An UrbanIDEA Forum with: Calvin Welch, Brad Paul, Dawn Phillips, Angelica Cabande, Jane Kim, and John Elberling. Moderated by Mario Yedidia
San Francisco: a city of uncontrollable cycles of boom and bust, crises of evictions and displacement, and battles over development and affordability. The question again looms: How do we deal with the impacts of these market cycles and ensure that we will continue to be a beacon of economic and cultural diversity?
Responding to the 1980s office high-rise boom, Proposition M has defined development and infrastructure in the City's downtown to this day. Now, in the midst of another boom of development and evictions, Central City activists are proposing a Housing Balance Act, to link the rate of market rate development to affordable and middle-income housing.
This event is FREE (donations appreciated!), but seating is limited. Please RSVP by clicking here
Children's Funding Community Coalition Meeting
When: Friday, April 11th, 2:30-4:30pm
Where: Children’s Council of SF, 445 Church Street (between 16th and 17th)
San Francisco currently has two landmark set-aside funds for children, youth and families in San Francisco, to provide the funding for critical services for the next generation: The Children’s Fund and the Public Education and Enrichment Fund (PEEF). BOTH of these funds are up for re-authorization in the next 2 years, and have to be approved by the voters once again.
Coleman is helping to lead the Children’s Funding Community Coalition to strengthen and ensure community-driven reauthorization of the both funds. Click here to learn more about the Coalition, and to check out our recommendations for the Children's Fund and PEEF, and our Children's Fund community needs assessment and polling results.
Join us on the 11th to get updates on our work, discuss strategy, and support our next steps! Please RSVP to: cfcccommunication@gmail.com.

We know our communities are being underserved in San Francisco. Thousands of people are unemployed or underemployed. The City and County of San Francisco has programs to address these needs, but they aren't always accessible to the people and communities who need them most. Communities United for Health and Justice is holding a convening for residents to learn about available resources and dialogue directly with staff from the Office of Economic and Workforce Development and Supervisor Avalos’ office.
Childcare and translation will be provided.
Presented by: Communities United for Health and Justice (Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth, Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center, Chinese for Affirmative Action, Filipino Community Center, and PODER) Sponsored by: Supervisor John Avalos’s Office.
