How (Black) Family Friendly Is Your School?

Start: Saturday, February 13, 2016 2:00 PM

End: Saturday, February 13, 2016 4:00 PM

Join the San Francisco Families' Union in a conversation February 13 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm about how we can make our public schools more Black family friendly.

As Black families are being pushed out of the city many feel isolated or unwelcome in San Francisco, sometimes even in our schools. The goal of this meeting is for Black families to identify what schools are doing to make us feel welcome and valued, and what changes are needed to make every San Francisco public school a place where Black kids are valued, welcomed and thriving.

We believe that our public schools will serve us all better when we know what the needs of individual communities are, and work towards them together.

Families who are not Black are strongly encouraged to come to listen and to identify strategies you can take back to your public school that will support Black families there and benefit all of our children.

This is the first in a series of meetings that will focus on the needs of San Francisco families, starting with Black families. Other meetings will focus on the needs of other marginalized families like Latino families, Asian families (especially newcomer families), Arab families, kids with disabilities and LGBTQ families.

RSVP by filling out the form to the right --------------------->

Childcare and snacks are provided, and the meeting is wheelchair accessible. There is a suggested sliding scale donation of $10-30/family for non-members which helps cover the costs of meeting space and child care - no one will be turned away. Or, bring a dish to share instead of a money donation. To help keep the event accessible, please do not wear perfume or use scented products.
