Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

The Golden State Warriors today announced that Oakland Unified School District and San Francisco Unified School Districts are among 32 organizations that have been awarded grants from the Warriors Community Foundation. The grants, totaling more than $1 million, aim to improve educational outcomes for underserved youth in Alameda and San Francisco Counties.

“Bringing together the entire Warriors family to positively impact the lives of disadvantaged students speaks to the character of this organization and our commitment to the community,” said Warriors Co-Executive Chairman and CEO Joe Lacob. “We are honored to have the opportunity to donate over $1 million to youth in need.”

The grants will support a range of programs and organizations, including efforts around college access and readiness, elementary literacy and early childhood development.

“Our goal is to promote a local educational system that supports all children and their families while also providing services that are coordinated and collaborative,” said Executive Director of the Warriors Community Foundation Jose Gordon. “These grants are a step towards achieving that goal and we look forward to continuing to grow and expand our work in the Bay Area.”

In total, grants will be made to 13 organizations that operate in Alameda County, 10 that work in San Francisco County, and nine that offer services in both areas. For more detailed information on the grantees and their projects, please visit warriors.com/2014grants.

At halftime during tonight’s game against the Clippers, the Warriors Community Foundation will present a ceremonial check to Oakland Public Education Fund Executive Director Brian Stanley and African American Male Achievement Program Executive Director Chris Chatman. Accepting on behalf of San Francisco Unified will be Board of Education Commissioner Hydra Mendoza and ExCEL After School Programs Executive Director Mele Lau-Smith.
